RND 1 - Burson Strikes First!!

Round 1 of the AMA/SRT/FASST CO Western Checkpoint Enduro Championship
Lost Coyotes Qualifier
Rower Flats - Santa Clarita, Ca - 01/19/14

1/22/14: Round 1 of the 2014 AMA Western Checkpoint Enduro Championship started this weekend with a bang! A new venue and new club to the series joined by some new faces made for a very exciting weekend. 75 miles of mountain roads, super tight single track and very dry conditions would await the riders in Rowher Flats OHV, Santa Clarita, Ca.

Purvines Racing's Nick Burson has started the year off very strong aboard the Factory Beta and continues with that momentum at the Lost Coyotes Qualifier Enduro. He would win all special tests but one and woud walk away with the win by close to 30 seconds. A nearly flawless run on the dry and dusty trails of the Angeles National Forest would be greatly helped by being the first on the trail. "I signed up as early as possible and was able to get on Minute 1." Said Burson. "It definitely made for a good dust free day."

Finishing 2nd overall would be 2 time West Chec champion Jordan Brandt. While he was all the way on minute 33 he was still able to put in some very fast times, and even take the win in the longest special test of the day. Brandt has represented the United States 5 times in ISDE and used his Qualifier experience to his advantage pushing when he needed to and conserving energy when he had to.

Brandt would be followed another 20 seconds back by multi-time Local Enduro Champion Ryan Kudla who was fresh off his broken scapula at the Italy ISDE. "It was just good to get back on the bike and a top 3 in my first race is definitely a good start." commented Kudla. "I always struggle in the first test of the day and it was no different at this round but I was able to push hard in the rest and keep making good times in the specials."

4th Overall would go to Oakely Leman who would also take 1st Vet honors and would be followed by the 2013 86-200 champion Michael Allen who now races AA.
